There are plenty of examples of timelines that have been specifically built for individual sites or subjects (and I may do a 'greatest hits' roundup of these in a future post) but for now I want to look at more general timeline applications. I don't want to reinvent the wheel so I think it's worth taking a look at what else is out there and what they're doing well.
I've made a shortlist of five projects to check out and I've tried to include a good mix of technologies and licensing. Over the next few days I'll be taking a look at: LongViewer, Simile Timeline, WikiTimeScale, WikiTimeline and Miomi.
