Patenting the application of a cookie is not big and it's not clever. But the mother of all e-tailers, amazon.com are trying to do it.
This is a slap in the face to web developers everywhere. These were the early adopters, the very people who sang their praises to the masses and put Jeff Bezos where he is today (namely sitting on top of a big fat pile of cash). They are also the last people you'd want to piss off - Remember what happened to etoys.
Tim O'Reilly (yes that O'Reilly) is compiling a petition to have Amazon withdraw from the patent.
